Why Sweden is donating Gripen fighter planes to Ukraine not until 2027 ?
The FIFTH-GENERATION F-35 will be used to equip the Czech Republic’s air force after the JAS 39C Gripen is retired in 2027. Sweden may accept that the Czech Republic will give Ukraine 14 JAS 39 Gripen fighters, including 12 single-seat JAS 39Cs and two two-seat JAS 39Ds.
The Czech Republic is currently looking to update its fleet and plans to conduct an investigation with the US government regarding the purchase of 24 F-35A stealth fighter aircraft. However, according to Ukrainian media, Stockholm is willing to give Prague permission to donate 14 Gripen fighters to Ukraine if the acquisition turns out to be real. According to Ukrainian media, this can only come to pass in 2027 when SAAB’s lease on the Czech Gripen fighter expires.
